It’s been almost 12 years since I bought my last telescope – My Sky Watcher 200p reflector telescope with a dobsonian mount from C-Sky Telescopics at Badlapur in March 2012.
My first telescope was a Sharp Vision Scientific Company Deluxe model telescope. A basic but highly functional and accurate 75mm reflector. This was in the 1990s in my school days
It was high time for me to invest in a refractor telescope. Essentially a telescope with a lens in the front and not a mirror as with larger telescopes. A refractor telescope is the stereotype image of a telescope that most people generally have, when they hear “telescope”, with a person peeking at the night skies through one end of the tube.
The movie “Mili” with Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bahaduri comes to mind, where Amitabh as the lead character indulges in sky watching using a telescope.
After looking up several online sources for buying telescopes, i zeroed in on Tejraj and Company for the buy.
For one it’s a company making house brand Star Tracker Telescopes since the 1970s, have personally met the original owner of the late Mr Raju Patel on several occasions in my childhood.
They’ve now expanded their offerings with several international reputed brands.
I narrowed down to Bresser, a German company reputed for their excellent optical offerings. BBC Sky At Night Review
The compact 80mm refractor telescope seemed to fit the bill just right.
I loved the design and I loved that it had the name Messier in it – after Charles Messier who catalogued 110 deep sky objects, which today is sort of a proverbial rite of passage for an Astronomer to observe all the 110 objects .
A couple of whatsapp chats with the current second generation owner – Darsheel Patel and the deal was done.
A Bresser 80/640 mm refractor telescope, a custom made carry bag and an EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC 82° Ar Eyepiece 18mm (2″)
The package arrived via Porter and it took no time to unpack and set up the telescope. A beautiful and well engineered product.
Looking forward to many wonderful night sky observations of the moon , planets and other treasures of the night skies with this telescope.
