Prison Break

We just completed watching Season 1 of the popular American serial “Prison Break” from 20th Century Fox. I had heard about this from a couple of sources, including some friends at office. At the time, I was already a great fan of the serial “Lost“, which is built around an air of mystical mysteries of an island somewhere in the Pacific.I decided to give “Prison Break” a watch. There are 22 episodes in all, each around 45 minutes in Season 1. We started watching each episode during the week nights, with one or two more on the weekends.

Right from the first shot, the serial mesmerized. What held attention was the speed at which the plot moves forward. Comparing to the slow paced Lost, this one was moving ahead quite fast. So much so that it seemed like we had almost watched an entire month’s quota of Lost in just a single episode.

The name of the serial is pretty much a give away of the plot. It involves a genius mastermind planning and attempting to execute a prison escape from one of the toughest and most secure facilities in the country. He does this from his conviction that his brother who is currently on death row is innocent and has been framed by someone having vendetta in mind.

What follows is how he goes about executing his plan. He has done his homework very well and that also involved a detailed bio-data of inmates of the prison he would have to work with and rely on to help him in his plan to escape.

The unusual attention grabber for me was that his brother was to be put in the electric chair in a couple of weeks, which did not leave much time for viewers as well as the

serial producers to run the serial in to a 2nd and now a 3rd season. The mastermind Michael Scofield is shown to be an extreme genius in the planning. He seems to have everything figured out and he manages to progress on the plan exactly as he had in mind. This “speed” of execution of the “perfect” plan foxed me further about the seasons to come. The question for seasons to follow this one was – what would they have as content if all went well in this one ?

I am hooked big time. It has somewhere managed to grab our fancy a wee bit away from Lost. Although Lost is a hot favorite now due to the deep involvement we have had in following each and every episode from Season 1. What keeps my fancy with Lost is perhaps another blog story !
